CAIRO: Zamalek moved to strengthen their midfield after signing Arab Contractors duo Alaa Kamal and Mahmoud Samir on a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee.
The arrival of Samir and Kamal will help Zamalek regain balance in midfield, Zamalek chairman Mamdouh Abbas told Al-Hayat channel late on Friday.
Both players will be registered in Zamalek s squad for the CAF Champions League.
The new signings will ease the worries of Zamalek fans, who feared their team wouldn t be able mount a serious challenge for the Egyptian League title next season.
Zamalek supporters were worried after arch-rivals Ahly, who clinched their fourth successive league title, signed seven new players.
The Cairo giants shaky midfield cost them dearly over the past few seasons.
Zamalek have struggled to find a replacement for midfielder Tamer Abdel Hamid, whose prowess was key in helping the team win many titles in the early 2000s.
Abdel Hamid is still with Zamalek, but has become out of favor after an inexplicable dip in form.
Playmaker Samir and central midfielder Kamal played a pivotal role in helping Contractors retain their top-flight status after a fight against relegation.
The 23-year-old Kamal put in some impressive displays and scored four goals throughout the league campaign.
Samir, also 23, notched two goals and provided numerous assists for his teammates, the form that caught the eyes of Zamalek.
