CAIRO: A speeding bus rammed into a truck in Egypt on Sunday, killing 12 people and injuring 12 others, police said.

The accident occurred near the town of Beni Sueif, 200 km south of the capital Cairo, police said, adding that the bus had 40 passengers at the time of the crash.

Egyptian roads are among the most dangerous in the world. Around 6,000 people die each year in accidents and 30,000 are injured, according to the transport ministry.

Most accidents are caused by speeding and flaunting the rules of the road. -AFP
