CAIRO: In contradiction to Zamalek s announcement, Hazem Emam denied that he retired from professional football.

The reports which indicated that I retired are totally untrue. I m yet to decide whether to carry on for another season, Emam told Egyptian radio late on Saturday.

I m surprised by those reports because I said nothing regarding this matter.

Earlier in the day, Zamalek said on their official website that Emam decided to put an end to his 15-year football career.

Club s chairman Mamdouh Abbas also revealed that the Cairo giants would do their best to make sure Emam s testimonial turned out brightly.

However, there is still a possibility that the legendary skipper, 33, opts against hanging up his boots.

I m still discussing the matter with assistant coach Mohamed Helmi to reach a final decision. I will announce my decision in June 20th.

The former Udinese man said he was unhappy after learning that some Zamalek veterans have been released by the club.

Combative defender Beshir Al-Tabie and left back Tarek Al-Sayed were among six players released by Zamalek after a string of disappointing displays.

Those players deserved something better. They heavily contributed to Zamalek s achievements in the past few years, he said.
