Egyptian striker Mido says he is keen to turn around Middlesbrough s fortunes next season after putting an injury-plagued season behind him.

I want to establish myself as a key part of the side and I believe I can make a big difference to the team’s fortunes, Mido was quoted as saying by the Evening Gazette.

A succession of injuries hampered Mido s progress with the Premiership side last season.

He scored just two goals since joining Boro from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2007.

However, Mido is individually working on improving his fitness levels to establish himself at the Riverside.

I am putting my injuries behind me now and I am determined to do the best I possibly can for the team in the new season, he said.

I have been working with [fitness coach] Nick Allamby, here in Egypt and I have lost a lot of weight. I feel as though I am getting close to peak fitness.

I think Boro fans will be really surprised when they see just what great shape I am in.
