CAIRO: Zamalek have pulled the plug on a summer move for Hussein Ali after going increasingly frustrated with Petrojet’s handling of the negotiations.
The Cairo giants have been long-term admirers of the talented midfielder, who impressed in Petrojet’s Egyptian League campaign last season.
Zamalek and arch-rivals Ahli were in Ali’s hunt but the men in white were the ones who engaged in formal talks with Petrojet.
However, the Egyptian Cup winners said they were no longer interested in signing the 26-year-old.
The club wish to confirm that it will not proceed with negotiations to sign Petrojet midfielder Ali, Zamalek said in a statement on their website on Monday.
The club have previously opened talks with Petrojet to sign Ali, who expressed his wish to join Zamalek.
But the club found out that Petrojet were unserious in concluding talks. Consequently, the club decided not to pursue the player.
Zamalek have already signed Trabzonspor midfielder Ayman Abdul-Aziz.
They are also aiming to resolve the problem of Setif’s midfielder Geoffrey Serey Die, whom they claim has signed a deal with them.
But the Ivorian has seemingly opted to join Swiss side Sion
