CAIRO: The relationship between Mamdouh Abbas and Amr Zaki reached a dead end after the latter accused the Zamalek chairman of verbal assault.
The Egypt striker was present at the club on Tuesday to discuss his prospective transfer to Wigan Athletic with Abbas.
However, the meeting did not bear fruit from Zaki s perspective as the Zamalek chief vowed to stand against his will.
I told him I am ready to play against Ahly [in the Champions League] and move after the elections, Zaki told FilGoal.com.
But I was surprised when he told me that the club will not allow me to leave under any circumstances.
He then got angry and swore at me. Things got worse when his bodyguards were about to beat me up.
In the same manner, Zaki s agent Nader Shawki, who was present as well, expressed his annoyance with the incident.
I have never witnessed something like that in football. It’s a shame to see such acts coming from the president of a big club like Zamalek, he said.
Zaki has been pleading for a bigger move since joining Zamalek in 2006, but the club s board has repeatedly blocked his departure.
The prolific striker was involved in a similar incident last year with former assistant coach Ayman Mansour, who was accused by Zaki of attacking him physically during training.
