BRISTOL, July 16, 2008 (AFP) – Egypt striker Emad Meteb will become Bristol City s record signing after agreeing a 1.5 million pounds move from El Ahly on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old Sharkia-born forward joins the English Championship club subject to a work permit on a three-year contract after passing a medical.
Meteb had a prolific record in Egyptian football, scoring 89 goals in 172 appearances for El Ahly in four seasons and has represented his country 47 times, scoring 22 goals.
He admitted the move to England was a dream come true. He said: This is a very big step for me, from the Egyptian league to England.
However, it s always been my dream to play in England. It s a very big league, a very strong league and one that is seen around the world.
It has been a difficult decision to leave the club where I grew up and learnt my football.
But this is a professional life and I m sure they will understand my decision in Egypt. I hope to realise all my dreams with Bristol City.
Meteb is confident he can make an instant impact at Ashton Gate and help City win promotion to the Premier League.
I want to give my best for the manager (Gary Johnson), who I like very much, he said.
I am a natural striker and I know all about Bristol City. I know the kind of supporters that are waiting to see me play.
I have to score goals for Bristol City and create them too. I want to help the club win promotion to the Premier League.
