CAIRO: Egypt s official news agency says at least nine people have drowned after their pickup truck toppled off a ferry on the Nile River.

The report says the accident took place late Tuesday in Minya province, south of Cairo. The victims are four women and five children.

Egyptians living on both banks of Nile often use ferries to commute or haul vehicles or supplies across the water.

Ferry, railway and road accidents are common in Egypt, mainly because of poor maintenance and lack of regulation. -AP
