CAIRO: Zamalek chairman Mamdouh Abbas has vowed to fulfill the club’s financial obligations even if he was to leave his post.

The club s board election was due to be held on Friday, but a court ruling postponed it for an indefinite period.

The court said that former Zamalek chairman Mortada Mansour should have the right to be nominated as a candidate for the chairman position, despite being suspended by the club s board.

It remains to be seen whether Abbas could remain in charge of Zamalek until a definite date for the elections is set.

However, the long-serving Zamalek fan pledged to back the club financially regardless of his position.

I will pay the players salaries and fund the team s new transfers, Abbas told Al-Hayat TV.

I will also pay Mahmoud ‘Shikabala’ Abdel Razek s fine because he must be available for selection when his ban ends.

Zamalek s talented winger Shikabala was banned for six months and handed a ? 990,000 fine for joining the Cairo giants without PAOK Saloniki’s approval last year.
