CAIRO: Under the slogan “Health . For a Better Life, the International Health and Nutrition Exhibition and Conference kicked off Sunday at the Cairo International Conference Center under the auspices of the Ministers of Health and Trade and Industry.
The health conference, taking place from July 27-29, is the first of its kind in Egypt.
Dyaa Helmy, chairman of Grand Event, the conference’s organizer, explained in his opening speech the effect of food on one s health. “Health and food come hand in hand. Egyptians have really bad eating habits, he said, citing several Arabic proverbs that convey these habits.
Ahmed Bebars, market nutrition manager at Nestlé Egypt, said the conference will help lead to a better understanding of one’s health and other food-related matters, adding that Egyptians are in need of this kind of awareness.
Despite the small number of attendees, Bebars was optimistic that the media will help spread the message.
The three-day conference will entail several lectures on topics drawing parallels between nutrition and other health matters such as obesity, oncology, cardiovascular diseases and typhoid.
In the conference’s first lecture, Dr Ibrahim Galal, professor of surgery at Cairo University, discussed the correlation between obesity and health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure. He said that by overcoming obesity, you in turn overcome all the health problems associated, even without taking medication. The event brings together more than 20 sponsors – the main sponsors being Nestlé and Hyper1 – who will get a chance to promote their products and services, network with researchers and exchange information.
