CAIRO: Summit, an Orascom and Sumitomo Corporation company, was chosen by El-Kendi Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Company to help set up the financial and logistics systems in its new plant in Algeria.
The project will be executed through Orascom Technology Solutions (OTS) and Qemmah, both are subsidiaries of Summit, the company said in a press statement.
“El-Kendi is laying the foundation for an ICT system to better control its financial cycle and inventory, the company added. “Summit’s solution to El-Kendi will enable it to become a market leader while controlling its budget and manufacturing process through offering a total integrated solution that combines a hardware platform solution based on HP technology. The solution was delivered and installed by the Algeria team of OTS (Orascom Technology Solutions).
Mohamed Nabil, country manager at OTS in Algeria, said, “This project is considered a milestone in the pharmaceuticals industry in Algeria since it is the first time that an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system is implemented in this industry.
He added that this will enable El-Kendi to lead the Algerian market through using high-tech technology to better manage its resources, which will lead to improvements in production efficiency.
El-Kendi, the Algerian-Saudi company, has a new plant in Algeria is set to begin production of 16 medicines in 2008, growing to 66 by 2009. With an annual production capacity of 290 million units, representing a 65 percent market share.
Medhat El-Leissy, CEO of Qemmah Consulting & Information Technology, said that “Building on the successful partnership we have with El-Kendi, we are looking forward to start phase two of the project that covers the implementation of the manufacturing track to achieve full automation of El-Kendi operations.
