CAIRO: Mamdouh Abbas has been reappointed as Zamalek chairman by the Egyptian Higher Council for Sport (HCS) on Tuesday.
The HCS said in a statement that the new board of directors will stay in office for one year before the club members can go to polls in July 2009.
Zamalek icon and former captain Hazem Emam, who retired from football last month, was named as a member in the seven-man board.
Abbas was the president of the last Zamalek board, which was dissolved by a Cairo court last week.
A wealthy businessman and long-time Zamalek supporter, Abbas was in pole position to win Zamalek elections before it was stopped by court order.
Dozens of Zamalek supporters and members gathered in front of the club and the HCS, both in one street, to demonstrate their support for Abbas.
