CAIRO: Essam Al-Hadari pulled off a string of fine saves as Sion claimed a precious 2-0 victory over defending champions Basel in the Swiss League on Saturday.
The Egypt guardian was criticized in his homeland for failing to keep a clean sheet in Sion s first three games in the league, conceding seven goals.
But he managed to impress against Basel, denying the visitors on several occasions, according to Sion s official website.
Brazilian midfielder Gilberto Beto put Sion in front in the 37th minute and Nigerian striker Saidu Adeshina doubled the lead just before the break.
Basel, who suffered their first defeat this season, slipped to second spot in the league table with nine points.
Sion climbed to fifth place after securing their second victory.
