CAIRO: Middlesbrough coach Gareth Southgate is satisfied with Mido s pre-season effort, following the Egypt forward s tough fitness program this summer.
Mido was subjected to a special program in late, which forced him to miss Boro s pre-season camp in Portugal.
The 25-year-old lost some 15 kg in an attempt to regain his fitness, following last season s nagging injury problems.
Mido’s attitude has been excellent, and he has given himself a base to work from. He had a difficult time last season with injuries so he wants to impress this time, Southgate said.
He has only had two preseason run outs for us so it’s early for him. He’s still finding his feet fitness wise. But he’s a different type of player for us. He will be suited to different games.
Mido has just recently returned to the Egypt national team for the first time this year, as he was chosen by Hassan Shehata for this month s friendly in Sudan.
Meanwhile, Argentine midfielder Julio Arca could be out of Boro s Premiership opener with Tottenham after sustaining an ankle injury in Saturday s win at Hibernian.
