CAIRO: Zamalek goalkeeper Abdel-Wahed Al-Sayed has announced that he will not extend his stay with the Cairo club come the end of the season, following recent criticism by club fans.
The 29-year-old’s contract will end in June 2009 and he informed Zamalek officials that he is not willing to renew it.
This will be my last season with Zamalek. I have officially notified the club that I will not renew my contract next season, Al-Sayed told FilGoal.com.
I respect Zamalek and I care about the club, that’s why I preferred to announce my decision early so that they can look for a replacement.
Al-Sayed revealed that he was disappointed after Zamalek fans blasted him following the Whites double defeat by Ahly in recent weeks.
Zamalek were beaten by their arch rivals in the Champions League and Egyptian Super Cup as Al-Sayed conceded four goals in the process.
I made my decision after the fierce criticism that I received from some fans after the Ahly defeats, added the international keeper.
I have given everything to Zamalek and now I am looking forward to playing outside Egypt.
Al-Sayed spent most of last season on the sidelines, following a serious knee injury, as Mohamed Abdel-Monsef was the starting goalkeeper.
