36 illegal immigrants apprehended

CAIRO: Authorities in Kafr El Sheikh governorate announced that they have foiled the illegal immigration of 36 citizens on their way to Italy.

Head of Security Major General Mohamed Ale an received information of the movement of a number of people through the Mediterranean village of Borg Megezl via boat to Italy.

The detainees were arrested before they reached the coast, most of them hailing from the Southern provinces of Assuit, Menufiya, Qaliubiya, Sharqeya, Gharbia and Kafr El Sheikh.

Traffickers said that they agreed on a sum of LE 35,000 to be paid for transportation with LE 5,000 given as a down payment and the rest to be paid after reaching Italy.

The Public Prosecutor s Office has launched an investigation into the incident.
