CAIRO: Egypt s official news agency says the nation s intelligence chief has met with a top Palestinian leader in effort to reconcile the feuding factions.

MENA says Omar Suleiman s discussions with Ramadan Abdullah Shallah are part of a push over the next few weeks to end Palestinian infighting.

Monday s meeting came a day before Suleiman met with Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak, also to discuss the Palestinian issue.

MENA adds that Egypt hopes the series of bilateral meetings with Palestinian leaders will climax in talks involving all factions after the holy month of Ramadan, which starts next week.

Egypt hopes to build on a ceasefire it had brokered between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas which controls Gaza and effect a Palestinian reconciliation. -AP
