What do little girls, young ladies and grown women have in common? They all love shoes, whether they are ballerina flats, sneakers or seven-inch heels.

Heels have been spotted on numerous catwalks for the 2008 fall/winter collection, with designers like Zac Posen, Valentino and Prada paying exquisite detail to their footwear – which make quite a statement.

Here’s a rundown of this season’s hottest shoe trends:

Stilettos: These towering heels have arguably been in our closets since – well, forever, but recently, sexy stilettos made a huge comeback.

Chunky thick heels: If you don’t want to wiggle in pain as you try to balance on a pair of pencil-like heels, try the chunky heels. They’re everywhere and they’re every woman’s dream.

Tapered heels: These interesting soles are also quite comfortable. Since they start thick at the top and become thinner as they curve down in a stiletto-like form, they’re sexy and comfortable.

Square-toed: This season witnesses the return of the square-toed shoe. There’s no need to stuff your toes into uncomfortable-shaped footwear, the square shape gives your toes room to breathe.

Pointy-toed: A less comfortable option, but definitely sexy and sophisticated, is the ultra-pointy toed shoe, which was a popular choice on the runways of Cavalli and Balenciaga.

Above the knee boots: Ever wanted to get that Superwoman/Catwoman look? Above the knee boots can give you that extra umph.

Lace-ups Adding a touch of old glamor to heels, lace-up shoes and boots are perfect for a night out with the girls or a first date. New Mary-Janes: Sick of the traditional Mary-Jane flats? This season, welcome the classic shoe but with a new twist. With bold colors and interesting fabrics, you can look elegant and modern.

Reptiles: Reptile leathers are back and designers like Dior and Ralph Lauren can’t get enough of them. Whether you prefer snake or crocodile skin, you’ll definitely find a reptile that suits your feet perfectly – and they come in different hues to boot.

Folk-inspired: With fringes and detailed embroidery covering these boots – both flats and heels – you’ll definitely feel “folksy once you get yourself a pair of these cute creations.

Open-toed: Sure, open-toed shoes have been around for a while now, but this season they’re worn with tights – that’s right, tights, and they’re meant to show, so no need to freeze during the winter.

Multi-colored and two-toned: Want to funk up your shoe collection? Opt for a colorful shoe – Chanel and Prada simply adore them. Play it safe with two tones or go all out with several colors.
