CAIRO: One woman was killed and two were injured after being struck by lightening during a storm in Marsa Matruh, according to the Middle East News Agency (MENA).
“There has been a state of instability in the weather since last Saturday [Oct. 11] and there have been rainstorms in a number of cities on the coast including Marsa Matruh, Port Said, Alexandria and some places in Sinai, Waheed Seoudi, head of the analysis unit at the Egyptian Meteorological Authority, told Daily News Egypt.
Last Saturday, state-owned Al-Ahram newspaper ran a warning on the storm systems expected to hit Egypt any time from Saturday until Tuesday.
However, the forecast will be lasting for a longer period, possibly the entire fall season. “According to meteorological studies, we are expecting more rainstorms in the coastal cities, Cairo, parts of Sinai and Upper Egypt, said Seoudi.
The fall season started on Sept. 21, so far Egypt has been experiencing sunny mornings and relatively breezy nights, however, experts are expecting the climate to change in the months leading up to the winter season.
“We are still in the beginning of the fall season, there will be many rapid fluctuations in the weather, explained Seoudi.
But despite those predictions, Seoudi is still upbeat, saying that the fall months in Egypt will be like no other place in the world.
“[This] fall will still be one of the best seasons of the year in Egypt, he said.
