The Egyptian Philharmonic Society (EPS) will be kicking off the 2008/2009 season with a concert at the Cairo Opera House’s Small Theater tonight at 8 pm.
Under the direction of conductor Maestro Ahmed El Saedi, with internationally renowned soloist Wael Farouk on piano, the EPS will be performing classic favorites by Mozart, Shostakovich and Haydn.
The EPS performed 11 concerts in its first season in 2005. Since its inception, the EPS s popularity has grown markedly, propelling them to triple the number of their concerts from 11 to 40 in three years only.
Last year s season included a musical tour of Kuwait, as well as a number of international engagements.The majority of this year s concerts will feature guest conductors and/or soloists from reputed international orchestras, who will be flying in especially for the performances.
Tonight s performance will feature Mozart s Serenata Notturna in D major, a Concerto for Piano, Trumpet and Orchestra by Shostakovich, and Haydn s Symphony No.6 in D major Hob 1:6.
