CAIRO: The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is yet to take any decisions regarding Zamalek s participation in the next version of the African Champions League.
Despite finishing third in the Egyptian league last season, the Whites earlier announced their intention to take part in the African Champions League in place of Ismaili, who opted to take part in the Arab Champions League instead.
No decisions were made about Zamalek as the CAF s yet to receive any official requests from the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) about the club s request, the CAF media spokesman told FilGoal.com.
We only communicate through national federations not clubs, that s why we will only discuss the proposition if EFA informs us of Zamalek s desire to play in the competition.
Meanwhile, another CAF anonymous source said that Zamalek s chances of playing in next year s Champions League are limited due to the African Federation strict rules regarding the matter.
Only domestic league champions and runners up are allowed to participate in the Champions League from the 12 top seeded countries, the source told FilGoal.com.
Even in case a team pulls out of the competition, no replacements can be made.
