CAIRO: Ahmed Refaat expressed his frustration with the “fierce media campaign against Zamalek following the team’s bad performance in a series of games.

The Whites were held to a disappointing goalless draw with Arab Contractors on Friday, but Refaat was more concerned about the reaction from the press.

There is a fierce campaign against us from the media, the Zamalek football director told the club s official site.

The press slammed our players after the Contractors draw, even though Ahly failed to beat the same team with nine men, but there was no reaction then.

We are aware that they intend to amplify our problems to keep us down ahead of the Cairo derby.

Refaat admitted that his players are to blame as well, as he reasserted that they need more support from fans.

Of course the players are responsible for the poor show against Contractors, especially in the second half when they were affected by the jeers, he added.

Fans have every right to be angry, but what we need at the moment is support.

Zamalek supporters poured their rage upon players during last weekend s game, with skipper Ayman Abdel-Aziz receiving most of the thrashing.

Reiner Hollmann s team will face league leaders Petrojet next week, before clashing with champions Ahly later this month.
