CAIRO: TEMSA, a Turkish commercial vehicle manufacturer, opened its first after-sales and spare parts center in Egypt, the company said in a statement.

Located in the first industrial zone, Sixth of October City, the center comes on the heels of the opening TEMSA’s bus and coach assembly plant in Tenth of Ramadan City earlier this year.

TEMSA, a coach, bus and light truck manufacturer located in Adana, Turkey, is part of the Sabanci Group, a Turkish industrial and commercial conglomerate.

The company was founded in 1968 but the manufacture of coaches began in 1984 while service bus products were introduced three years later. A subsidiary, TEMSA Europe, was established in Belgium with offices in Germany, France, Italy and Spain, and now has 7 percent of the market share in Europe.

Mehmet Buldurgan, CEO of TEMSA Global – established in 2008 – spoke of the operation s success following the start of bus production last April, adding that the after-sales center meets European standards, including those relating to the environment and waste management.

TEMSA Egypt Chairman Hossam Lasheen said there is an abundance of technical talent in Egypt’s market, the company said in a statement.

The center, spanning 6,000 square meters, will be the main spare parts warehouse for TEMSA Global markets in the Middle East and North Africa, Lasheen said. The center houses a workshop, a spare parts warehouse, a showroom, the administration offices and a customer lounge.

The center has a staff of 20 specialists that have been trained in Turkey and Egypt.

Similar facilities are planned for Sharm El-Sheikh, Hurgada, Luxor and Alexandria.

Around 80 percent of TEMSA s Turkey plant production is exported to European countries.
