CAIRO: Prior to Ahly’s participation in the FIFA Club World Cup this Saturday, Mohamed Abou-Trika confirmed that it’s his team’s unity and not his exceptional skills which is behind the Red Devils’ success.
The forward was a prominent figure behind Ahly’s local and continental domination over the last few seasons, helping the club win three CAF Champions League titles in the last four years.
After scoring three goals in the 2006 Club World Cup, the 30-year-old has the chance of beating Romario and Nicolas Anelka and become the competition’s all time scorer if he hits the net for Ahly this time around.
I’m not the star of the team, the team is the star, Abou-Trika was quoted as saying by FIFA.com.
Football is a team game. I don t care about the individual accolades, he added.
From his side, skipper Shadi Mohamed confirmed that Ahly will be doing their best to show the world that they are capable of well-representing the Dark Continent.
We want to show Africa why we are here fighting for them. The Pachuca game will be key, but we want to reach the final for sure, Shadi confirmed.
After reaching the competition’s semi-final in 2006, Ahly will be hoping to go further in this year’s Club World Cup.
