CAIRO: Dortmund striker Mohamed Zidan expressed his happiness at ending 2008 with Friday s 2-1 win over Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga.

The Egyptian international scored his team s opener thanks to a stunning volley from outside the box, putting Dortmund on course to securing sixth spot in the table prior to Christmas.

It was a great day not only for me but for the whole club. It was very important to achieve such a big win ahead of Christmas, Zidan told Dortmund s official website.

Dortmund completed the game with one man down following the dismissal of Tomas Hajnal in the first half.

Despite playing with 10 men, the coach urged us to put pressure on Gladbach.

Thankfully we managed to do so and we deservedly won the game s points.

The Gladbach win was Dortmund s last game before the Bundesliga s winter break, which will last until Feb. 1.
