CAIRO: ENPPI were dealt a major blow with the news that winger Islam Awad might miss the rest of the season after tearing a cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Awad sustained the injury during ENPPI s victory over Tersana in the Egyptian Cup quarter-final on Thursday.

The player will undergo a surgery soon, ENPPI doctor Alaa Al-Mokadem told the club s official website.

Al-Mokadem said it is yet to be determined for how long Awad would be sidelined.

However, the 21-year-old, who usually gets a call-up up to Egypt squad, is highly unlikely to play further part this season.

He sustained a similar injury in a league game against Ahly in January 2007.

Awad heavily contributed to ENPPI s fine form this season, scoring two goals and providing numerous assists for his teammates.

Petroleum side ENPPI are fourth in the Egyptian Premier League table with 26 points, just four behind surprise leaders Petrojet.

They also advanced to the Cup semi final, where they will face Petrojet.
