CAIRO: Wigan Athletic’s newly-signed striker Mido is aiming to score when making his first appearance with the Latics against Liverpool on Wednesday in the Premier League.
The Egyptian international player moved to Wigan from Middlesbrough a couple of days ago on loan until the end of the season in a swap deal that saw Marlon King heading in the opposite direction.
It would be fantastic if I could, he told Wigan s official website on Saturday.
Everyone wants to score on their debut but the most important thing is for the team to do well and hopefully get a good result against Liverpool and pick up some more League points, he said.
The former Roma forward voiced his satisfaction over his move to Wigan, and paid tribute to his new teammates.
This is a great time to be joining the club, he said They are playing so well and having talked to a few of the boys this morning I can see how strong the [confidence] is in the dressing room.
Mido usually leaves promising first impressions. When he joined Boro, he scored twice in his first couple of games. However, recurrent injuries diminished his prospects at the riverside.
The 25-year-old suffered similar setbacks during his stint at Tottenham Hotspur. He carved out a reputation as a skillful striker at the London-based club, and was then plagued with numerous injuries that kept him on the fringes.
Mido, who will wear the number nine shirt following the departure of Emile Heskey to Aston Villa, is expected to form a strike partnership with compatriot Amr Zaki in the Reds clash.
The towering striker heaped praise on the in-form Zaki, saying the latter is set to impress further.
I m really looking forward to teaming up with Zaki, who is a top striker and I can tell you if you think he has been good so far, I think he can get even better, added Mido.
