CAIRO: Egypt s state news agency says the military has staged war games on the Sinai Peninsula designed to improve the army s combat capability.

MENA says large numbers of infantry, armored and artillery units as well as air force warplanes have taken part in the ten-day exercise.

It was not clear whether the war games have been completed or are ongoing.

Egypt has staged several war games on the Sinai Peninsula over the last few years.

They are seen by many experts as indication that Egypt is boosting its combat capabilities out of concern for rising tensions in the Middle East.

The 1979 Camp David peace agreement with Israel imposes limits on the number of troops Egypt can have in the desert peninsula and their movements. -AP
