CAIRO: A young man threw an incendiary bottle onto the Cairo urban railway network on Saturday but it failed to explode, police said.

The incident happened at Helmiet El-Zaitoun metro station, where the culprit hurled the bottle containing inflammable liquid before fleeing, according to police.

A witness told AFP that a young man threw the bottle from a bridge overlooking the station towards the platforms. Trains were not delayed, he said.

About three million people use the Cairo metro system each day. -AFP
