CAIRO: Petrojet boss Mokhtar Mokhtar said “it would be great if his side managed to secure a Champions League spot this season, even if they missed out on the title.

Mokhtar saw his side scrolling to a 1-0 Egyptian Premier League victory over Ismaili on Monday to revive their chances of challenging leaders Ahly.

Despite being on top of the table for long spells of the first half of the season, the Petrojet coach won t mind if his team finished second.

If we won the league title it would be a massive achievement, but if we just qualified for the Champions League it would be great as well, the former Ahly star told Modern Sport TV.

Petrojet ended a four-match winless streak with the victory at Suez Stadium, leveling on 39 points with ENPPI in second place.

At the other end, Ismaili assistant coach Ahmed Al-Agouz insisted that the Dervishes can still win the title despite the crucial defeat.

There is still long way to go, each team have nine games left to play, which means 27 points are still winnable, Al-Agouz said at the post-match conference.

We weren’t at our best today. We paid for the chances we missed in the first half.
