CAIRO: Government officials ran a marathon Friday to raise awareness of tuberculosis (TB).

Minister of Health Hatem Al-Gabaly and newly appointed minister of state for family and population Moushira Khattab participated in the marathon.

The marathon was followed by a concert by Egyptian singer Hisham Abbas at the citadel.

This is the first public awareness campaign to fight tuberculosis in Egypt.

Last month, the Ministry of Health along with the World Health Organization (WHO) office in Egypt, and popular preacher Amr Khaled, chairman of the Right Start Foundation, signed an agreement to launch a one-year campaign to increase awareness about TB and to combat the disease.
