CAIRO: An Egyptian security official says 17 members of the Muslim Brotherhood have been detained on suspicion of engaging in banned political activity.
The security official says Egypt s prosecutor on Wednesday issued 15-day detention orders for those who were arrested Sunday while holding a meeting in the Nile Delta region.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn t authorized to speak to the press.
The group said members were celebrating the birth of child, not holding a meeting on group activities.
