Sandwiched between leading Cilantro and popular, posh Coffee Bean and the Tea Leaf, the Bean Bar joined the coffee-mania industry kicking off its first branch on Zamalek’s Abu El Feda Street.

Overseeing the Nile in one of Cairo’s trendiest neighborhoods, Bean Bar, brought to Cairo by Ezz El Arab for tourists’ restaurants five months ago, failed to attract the growing population of coffee-lovers, mainly because of fierce competition on both sides. At first glance, it’s easy to assume Bean Bar is an extension of one of the other two coffee shops.

At Bean Bar, you can guarantee a seat immediately as prompt waiters guide you through their coffee cup sizes. The coffee is simple, nothing too exquisite but it will surely satisfy your daily fix, be it a flavored latte or the classic American coffee.

And for those who don’t like to work at home or are looking for a quite place to read, this place will surely set you on the role. It is almost always quiet, and although it is a two-storey coffee house, none of the waiters ever hang around upstairs, leaving you consumed with whatever it is you’re working on, undisturbed.

At Bean Bar, the noise level is down to none.

Striving for simplicity, Bean Bar’s array of cakes and pastries do not fall short of that. You’ll find your favorite strawberry cheesecake, chocolate cake, nutty cookies and banana muffins, a personal favorite. And for the weight watchers, salads, light mini sandwiches and low-fat cake slices are also available. The servings make a nice snack and you won’t have to dig deep into your pockets.

Fighting the never ending battle of what to wear will come to an end if you decide to head to Bean Bar. It’s most unlikely to bump into someone you know, and when you decide to go with a friend, I’m sure they’ll know you well enough to shrug off you’re messy look for the day.

Don’t expect particularly comfortable interiors; the seating arrangement is a simple collection of wooden tables and chairs, with the exception of a low-back sofa stretched along the window, giving your back to the Nile.

So pick up that book that has been shelved for months and head down to Bean Bar. Pick a sunny morning and you’re unlikely to regret it.
