AL-ARISH: An Egyptian medical official says 11 people died and 36 others injured when their speedy bus overturned several times in central Sinai.
Dr Ahmed Abdullah, head of Al-Arish hospital in northern Sinai, says the passengers were all laborers from southern Egypt.
He says they were heading across the Sinai Peninsula to Jordan for work when the bus overturned early Tuesday near the Nekhil are, about 400 km, east of Cairo.
The injured were taken to hospitals in Al-Arish and Suez.
Egypt has a history of serious bus and car crashes because of speeding, careless driving and poor road conditions. At least 8,000 people were killed in accidents in 2006, the most recent statistics available.
