CAIRO: Police say an Egyptian-Swedish doctor was decapitated by his brother-in-law at his home in southern Egypt.

A police official says the brother-in-law confessed to killing the doctor with the help of a friend in a plot to steal $90,000 in cash that he thought the doctor kept at his home. The police official says, however, that the killer found only $90 in the apartment.

The official says the man will stand trial in the March 29 slaying in the town of Naga a Hammadi, 460 km south of Cairo.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not allowed to speak to the press.

The doctor was born in Egypt and became a Swedish citizen while working there. -AP
