The Beatles entire record catalogue is to be released in digitally remastered form for the first time later this year, their music company said Tuesday.
The 14 records are set for worldwide CD release on September 9, the same day as a video game of the Fab Four, titled The Beatles: Rock Band, said Apple Corps Ltd. and EMI Music.
The albums have been re-mastered by engineers at EMI’s Abbey Road Studios in London over a four year period, using state-of-the-art recording technology combined with vintage studio equipment.
The result of this painstaking process is the highest fidelity the catalogue has seen since its original release, said a statement.
Each CD will come with replicated original album art and original and newly written liner notes and rare photos. For a limited period, each CD will also be embedded with a brief documentary film about the album.
It will be the first time the first four Beatles albums will be available in stereo in their entirety on compact disc.
In addition each album will include, in QuickTime file format, newly produced mini-documentaries on the making of each album, including archival footage, rare photographs and never-before-heard studio chat.
The September release date for the Beatles Rock Band video game was announced last month, billed as letting people pretend to be the legendary Fab Four.
Accessories sold along with the video game will include faux instruments modeled after ones used by band members John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. -AFP
