CAIRO: An Al-Dostour journalist was detained for one day allegedly for covering news related to the Muslim Brotherhood, according to Khaled Badran, another journalist at the newspaper.
Ahmed Seif El-Din was arrested Friday and released on Saturday in Fayoum, where he is Al-Dostour newspaper’s correspondent.
Badran linked the arrest to the fact that Seif El-Din is a member of the Brotherhood.
Seif El-Din is also an editor of a news website called Fayoum Window, which claimed his arrest came after he reported on police assaults on Brotherhood students who organized a protest at Fayoum University last week.
According to the website, over 15 police officials kidnapped Seif El-Din from his home in Fayoum where he lives with his wife and three children. An hour later they raided his apartment and confiscated both his and his wife’s cell phones along with some personal documents.
On the same day of the arrest, the prosecutor’s office ordered the detainment of 10 Brotherhood students for 15 days after accusing them of assaulting campus security officers as well as police officials during a protest they were organizing.
