CAIRO: The Muslim Brotherhood says it supports the Lebanese group Hezbollah, which the Egyptian government has accused of planning attacks in Egypt.
Hezbollah has rejected the accusation, but admitted one of its members was in Egypt supervising weapons shipments to the Palestinian group Hamas that controls the neighboring Gaza Strip.
The Brotherhood, Egypt’s largest opposition group, said in a statement Wednesday that Muslim governments and their people have a duty to supply Palestinians with weapons to fight Israel. The group said supplying weapons to Hamas does not violate Egypt’s security.
Earlier this month, Egypt said it was searching for 49 alleged Hezbollah agents who were planning to attack Egyptian institutions and Israeli tourists. -AP
