CAIRO: The Cairo Criminal Court sentenced to death Sherif Kamal Al-Din, who has confessed to killing his family after suffering huge financial losses in the stock market in January.
During the first court session on Saturday the Kamal Al-Din pleaded guilty as he described his crime in detail.
“I first killed my wife by hitting her with a bat on her head, then I went to my daughter’s room and hit her and then my son, then I went back to my daughter who was still alive and hit her again, he said from behind the bars, addressing the judge.
The Judge referred Kamal Al-Din’s papers to grand mufti and set June 6 to pronounce the final verdict.
The brutal crime took place on Jan. 15. Kamal Al-Din then confessed to having committed the crime a few days later after he was rescued from a suicide attempt.
According to Kamal Al-Din, he had lost LE 1 million in the Egyptian stock market and a business in which a mysterious business associate had made off with LE 3 million that Kamal Al-Din had asked him to invest for his acquaintances.
He had told his lawyer that he wanted to end his family’s life and to kill himself to save them from destitution.
