CAIRO: Zamalek new signing Amir Azmi is determined to prove his worth to the Egypt national team after returning to his home club.
The 26-year-old defender signed a three-year deal with Zamalek, where he started his career before moving to Europe in 2004.
Azmi is willing to take advantage of his presence in the Egyptian Premier League in an attempt to revive his international career.
I chose to return to Zamalek in order to demonstrate my [skills] in Egypt. I want to be involved in the national team, he told FilGoal.com.
I spent some good seasons in Europe, but unfortunately the leagues I ve played in are not commonly followed by the media here.
Now I m present and I want to prove that I am one of the best defenders in Egypt.
Azmi had spells in Greece, Cyprus, Saudi Arabia and Turkey during the past few years, where he has hardly featured for Egypt.
The well-built center-half signed a contract with Zamalek last summer, but the deal fell through due to the instability of the Cairo club at the time.
Azmi s father is a prominent figure inside the club and is expected to be involved in the upcoming board elections.
