CAIRO: Gaish goalkeeper Gharib Hafez said that his team was aiming to deny Ahly the Egyptian Premier League title.

The military side slumped to a sensational 3-1 defeat to the Red Devils on Wednesday in the League conclusion, to keep the title hanging in the balance for several more days.

Ahly s quest to retain the domestic title for a fifth year running would have doomed to failure if they had either lost or drawn.

We were trying to demolish Ahly s title chances, for us it would have been a historic feat, Hafez said after the game.

Everyone remembers Ahly s defeat against ENPPI in 2003, which prevented them from claiming the title at the time. Today we were trying to pull off a similar result or even better.

We have every right to seek victory, and we could have registered a good result if it wasn t for the referee, who was clearly biased against us.

The referee Kamal Risha was accused of making a lot of mistakes in the game and earning Ahly an undeserved win.

Ahly will face Ismaili in a league decider on March 24 at Max Stadium.
