CAIRO: Rabab Stud farm in Sakkara held a dressage competition in a bid to renew interest in this equestrian sport.

Dressage as a competitive sport had stagnated in Egypt in recent years. The local chapter of the Federation Equestre International was more interested in jumping sports.

In a press statement, organizers said they hope to standardize rules and promote the sport.

Egypt has a long tradition of dressage, but the even organizers want to cultivate its dressage riders to reach the level of its neighbors, Jordan and Syria. They also hope to bring Egyptian dressage up to European standards.

President of the competition and farm owner Sheikh Khaled Bin Laden officiated and judged. The two-day affair consisted of a host of events for different ages and levels.

In the E1 and F1 young children competition, Nour Mourey and Anouck Guillou each took first prize, respectively. Refaat Salah A.Aziz was champion in the high level of dressage with complex moves. In the C1 and D1 dressage test, Elisabetta Torossian was victor. Emad Zaghloul was first in the A1, which is the highest of dressage tests in Egypt. -Daily News Egypt
