Egyptian to head United Nations Information Center in Beirut

CAIRO: Egyptian national Bahaa Elkoussy was named director of the United Nations Information Center in Beirut.

The Beirut center is responsible for providing information and communication in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Kuwait. It also reports to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for West Asia.

Elkoussy is taking the post after years of working with the UN and media-related fields. Prior to this, Elkoussy was a Reviser in the United Nations Department of General Assembly and Conference Management until November 2008, where he also was a reporter from 2000 to 2006.

He served as officer-in-chief of the Beirut center from October 2006 to April 2007. Interspersed with these posts were research assignments to the Permanent Missions of Kuwait and Libya to the UN.

Elkoussy also functioned as Deputy Spokesman for the UN Mission in Sudan.

In the field of journalism, Elkoussy was chief Middle East correspondent and chief of the Cairo bureau for United Press International. He also acted as editor-in-chief for the Cairo-based English-language magazine Words in Pictures and as a reporter for Voice of America. -Daily News Egypt
