RAFAH: An Egyptian security official says border guards shot and killed an African migrant and injured two others who were trying to cross the border into Israel near the town of Rafah.
The official says the migrants refused to surrender to border guards after they fired in the air early Sunday. The identity of the dead was not known but the two injured were from Eritrea.
The official said two other Africans, one from Ethiopia and another from Uganda, were caught trying to cross into Israel from a different location near the border. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the media.
Many migrants seeking political asylum and jobs try to cross into Israel with the help of Bedouin traffickers.
