CAIRO: President Hosni Mubarak and Saudi King Abdullah have met in the Red Sea resort town of Sharm El-Sheikh.

Tuesday’s meeting was the second in three days between the leaders. Mubarak held talks with Abdullah on Sunday in Saudi Arabia that the official Saudi news agency said were mainly focused on “the Palestinian issue.

The agenda for Tuesday’s meeting is unknown, but it comes as rival Palestinian factions Hamas and Fatah are in Cairo holding the latest round of reconciliation talks.

Egypt has been mediating those discussions, which started after Hamas routed Fatah forces to take over the Gaza Strip in mid-2007.

Saudi Arabia negotiated a Palestinian unity government in early 2007, but it fell apart soon after. -AP
