CAIRO: Egypt’s State Security Prosecution renewed the detainment order of six Muslim Brotherhood deputy leaders for 15 more days pending investigations.

Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh, secretary general of the Arab Doctors’ Union, and Gamal Abdel Salam, chairman of the emergency committee in the Arab Doctors’ Union and former Brotherhood candidate in the 2005 parliamentary elections, are accused of terrorism, joining an illegal group and money laundering.

According to a statement by State Security Prosecution, the six deputy leaders are among some other 27 Brotherhood members that security officials recently arrested.

Investigations claim that the detainees illegally brought an estimated LE 20 million to Egypt to finance the group.

“The accused persons brought this sum of money claiming it will be used in investment projects, while investigations proved that they were used to finance the illegal Brotherhood group, the statement read.
