CAIRO: The defense team representing the 26 alleged members of a “terrorist cell arrested last week filed on Monday a complaint to the State Council’s Administrative Court against interior minister Habib El Adly requesting him to unveil the whereabouts and the reasons behind the group’s arrest.

The suspects include 25 Egyptians and a Palestinian.

Protesting the arrest of the 26 detainees without questioning, the defense council filed a complaint to Prosecutor General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud, requesting a separate investigation into the suspects’ arrest and delay in presenting their case to the specialized prosecution office.

Moreover, members of the defense threatened to “scale-up protest measures and hold a strike in front of the Prosecutor General’s office if the defendants’ incarceration continues, a sentiment that was echoed by Mohamed Shabana, member of the defense team and the uncle of the main suspect Mohamed Fahim. General manager of Hisham Mubarak center Ahmed Seif and executive manager of the same center Khaled Seif, along with members of the defense team presented a memo to the head of the lawyer’s syndicate Hamdy Khalifa requesting that the syndicate create a committee to monitor stages of prosecution, a process the memo refers to as “collective arrests of suspects and subjection to violations.
