CAIRO: A second-half fracas involving the players led to the cancellation of Saturday s friendly game between Egyptian league runners-up Ismaili and their rivals Masri.
The match was repeatedly halted due to clashes between players from both sides that heavily escalated in the second period.
FilGoal.com s Yasser Al-Sherif in Ismailia said the referee had no option but to call off the game after a mass brawl erupted.
Punches were thrown from both sides to signal the end of an unfortunate match.
Port Said-based club Masri were leading 2-1 when the referee abandoned the game 15 minutes after the restart.
It remains to be seen whether the Egyptian Football Association would interfere and launch a probe. Both clubs are yet to comment on the matter.
