The official Champs Elysees website this summer is offering virtual travelers what it says is a technologically groundbreaking walk along one of the world s most celebrated avenues.
Though not quite the real thing, the as-if-you-were-there trek along the almost two-kilometer (one mile) long boulevard allows visitors to ChampsElysees.org to wander from one end to the other – stopping, starting, turning round or looking up or down.
Unlike traditional virtual tours with flat panoramic views, or Google s Street View which is similar but only enables travelers to go from one spot to another, this tour is as close to the real pedestrian thing as current technology allows, say its managers.
It s like tele-transporting to the world s most beautiful avenue, Eric Ange Pena, CEO of the site, told AFP.
