Young Iranian film director Hana Makhmalbaf is to preview her film about protests that followed Iran s disputed June presidential election at the Venice Film Festival, organizers said this week.
The footage is already in Italy and the young director is finishing the editing and post-production at a secret location thereby avoiding strict Iranian censorship, one of the festival s spokesmen told AFP.
Green Days, using a mix of raw footage from the protests and fictional sequences about the position of women in Iran, will show outside of competition at the 66th Venice Film Festival, which runs from September 2 to 12.
The film shows Iranian society going through a revolution, with all its hopes and doubts through the story of a depressed young Iranian woman caught up in the political events, a statement quoted Makhmalbaf as saying.
Makhmalbaf, 21, is from a well-known Iranian filmmaking family and won the Crystal Bear at last year s Berlin Film Festival for her Buddha Collapsed out of Shame.
Her first feature-length film Joy of Madness was screened at the 2003 Venice Film Festival when she was just 15 years old.
Her director father, Mohsen Makhmalbaf, is also a spokesman for the losing candidate during June s presidential election, the former post-revolution prime minister Mir Hossein Mousavi.
The disputed re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad triggered massive street protests in Tehran and other cities, with dozens killed and thousands arrested during Iran s worst crisis since the 1979 Islamic revolution. -AFP
